Jim’s Place East Celebrates Dads:
Offers Greek, American Favorites Plus
Redbirds Tickets, Keith Kinkade Umbrellas
MEMPHIS,
TENN. (May 24, 2010)… Jim’s Place East has an excellent game plan for its
second Father’s Day luncheon on June 20. In addition to a special menu with
plentiful choices for man-sized appetites, the restaurant will surprise some
lucky dads with “Dad’s Day Out” gift bags filled with gift certificates to
Jim’s and the restaurant’s signature lemon-oregano sauce for grilling, tickets
to the Memphis Redbirds, and weatherdefyer umbrellas
from Keith Kinkade’s Fine Clothing in Ridgeland,
Miss. Check www.jimsplaceeast.com or call
388.7200, ext. 4. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.
“Our first
Father’s Day last year was well attended and we anticipate this year will be
met with equal enthusiasm,” said Jim’s Place co-owner
Angelo Liollio. “We are grateful to our in-kind
donors this year, Memphis Redbirds and Keith Kinkade’s
Fine Clothing, for adding the sports element to the mix along with the
accessory that will give fans shade or keep them dry during the game. The Redbirds are so popular in our city and Kinkade’s is a well-respected men’s store, known throughout
the Jackson, Miss. area for its quality and personal customer attention.”
Dads often
forge the way for their children and the Jim’s Place owners know that
firsthand. All are first generation
Greeks whose fathers came to America for a more prosperous life. Bill Taras, father
of Jim’s co-owners Costa and Dimitri Taras, was one of the original owners of the restaurant
that had its beginnings downtown in 1921.
The restaurant has been at the 5560 Shelby Oaks Dr. location
since the mid-70s. Today’s Jim’s Place
menu reflects a respectful nod back to its Greek roots along with American and
Southern favorites.
The Jim’s Place Father’s Day lunch menu offers authentic
Greek entrees such as roast leg of lamb with Grecian seasonings
and souflima, a savory pork dish made from an
original Greek recipe and a review favorite by area publications. Guests with a taste for American or
Southern dishes can choose from Mississippi pecan crusted catfish; Norwegian
salmon prepared with lemon oregano sauce; Low Country crawfish and shrimp;
broiled tilapia prepared in lemon garlic butter sauce; charcoal-grilled rib eye
steak, another review favorite by area publications; chicken Parmesan; batter
dipped veal cutlet; and ‘extra select’ Gulf oysters. Each entrée comes with a
choice of two vegetable or fruit sides with a selection ranging from the
popular cold asparagus mousse, fresh cut fruit and flavorful turnip greens to
melt-in-the-mouth creamed Idaho potatoes, crisp garden salad with dressings
made in-house, vegetable of the day options and savory soup of the day. Each
meal is accompanied by Jim’s homemade bread. There’s also a Kid’s Menu available.
