MEMPHIS, TENN. (June 25, 2010)…Men are often
defined by their professions. But on Father’s Day at Jim’s Place East, June 20,
it was clear that family remained the definitive bottom line.
About 350 moms, dads, and kids attended a fine
luncheon at Jim’s while a few dads were surprised by gift bags from the
restaurant bearing Jim’s gift certificates and signature salad dressings,
Memphis Redbirds tickets, shaving kits, and weatherdefyer
umbrellas from Keith Kinkade’s Fine Clothing in Ridgeland, Miss. Most dads were returning fans of the
restaurant, having experienced great food and service.
Read Bush from Cordova said, “We’ve been coming to Jim’s for 15 to 16 years. Love the food and atmosphere.” Bush spent the day with his wife Ronda, his mom Louise Bush Wynn from Bay Springs, Miss., daughter Baylor, 13, son Bryce, 10, sister-in-law Stephanie Yeager of Downtown and her boyfriend Greg McManic of Cordova, Stephanie’s mother, Alice Faye Yeager of Searcy, Ark., Alice’s son Sam Yeager and daughter-in-law Ruth Yeager of Eads, Tenn., and friend Shirley Collins of Bay Springs, Miss.
Still some fathers were first time visitors. “I wanted something elegant but with food my
dad could eat,” said daughter Angela Johnson of Cordova, who had experienced
the good food at Jim’s and knew her dad, Adlai Johnson of Whitehaven, had basic
tastes. So she introduced him to Jim’s and he was quite pleased. Adlai was the only male at his table as he
enjoyed the luncheon with wife Beverly, daughters Angela, Natasha Rhyan, and
Lynette. Son Adlai, Jr., who lives in
Atlanta, was present in spirit.
Lakeland resident dad and granddad Tim Fortner and
his brood wanted to return to the restaurant on Father’s Day to induct young
granddaughter Hannah, 2, into the family tradition at Jim’s. Tim enjoyed his time with wife Debbie,
daughter Angela Mathes, and son-in-law Josh Mathes, son Andy, granddaughter
Isabella, 5 ½, and daughter-in-law Beth, all of Lakeland.
Germantown resident Stan Caummisar said his wife
put the Father’s Day celebration together and chose Jim’s because “the food is
always good and for the elegant setting.”
He spent time with son Blake, 17, and Blake’s girlfriend Kallie Goodman
of Cordova, his wife Beth and her dad, Tom Madden of East Memphis and his son
Tom Madden, Jr., and Stan’s dad, Stan Caummisar, Sr. of Germantown, Stan’s
sister Madeline C Nunn of Midtown, brother-in-law John W. Summers of
Germantown, his wife Sandra, and John’s son, John M. Summers, 22.
Dad Jason Speed of Germantown, with four children
in tow, said that Jim’s held good memories for his family over the years. “It
was one of my mom Shirley’s favorite places while she was living.” He
celebrated with wife Valerie, his sister Shannon of Germantown and children
Abigail, 6, Wyatt, 10, Marshall, 3, and Cody, 7. And according to Jason, the gift bag from Jim’s Place made his
day.
Dad Jeff Soldan of East Memphis said that his family remains regular customers of Jim’s for the food, the service and the belief that the restaurant is a part of “Memphis Hometown.” His family included wife Gina, his son Duncan, 2, daughter Veronica, 4, and his parents Harry and Barbara Soldan of East Memphis.
